One of Santa Clarita’s most notable attractions is located just outside the city limits in Valencia, California. The theme parked opened on Memorial Day weekend on May 29, 1971 and was called “Magic Mountain” by the Newhall Land and Farming Company. In 1979 Six Flags purchased the parked and added the Six Flags name to it. 2.5 million visitors visited the park in 2009. In 1976, Magic Mountain became the only park in the world with an operating 360-degree steel loop roller coaster called the “Great American Revolution” and in 1977 a movie called Rollercoaster was filmed at Magic Mountain with the roller coaster as its centerpiece. In 1978, the Colossus opened and was, at the time, the fastest, largest dual-tracked wooden roller coaster. The Colossus still runs today although it has been re-profiled several times the most significant being in 1979. Another interesting fact, in 1982 Magic Mountain became the fictional “Wally World” for the movie National Lampoon’s Vacation. Today the park features world-class roller coasters and over 100 rides, games and attractions all located on a 260 acre space. For more information about the park please visit their website.
